26. Holocaust Museum and Cohen Education Center

The Holocaust Museum and Cohen Education Center is one of the more sober Naples attractions.

It got a rather unique start, beginning as an exhibit in a middle school classroom.

That exhibit, named Out of the Ashes, was made by teachers and students.

Their goal was to ensure that the story and lessons of the Holocaust would get passed down from generation to generation.

Today, that exhibit has more than just grown.

It has become a whole museum focused on education and student programs.

The Holocaust Museum and Cohen Education Center has been opened in this manner since 2001 when it became a non-profit corporation.

With over 5,000 annual visitors and more than 15,000 annual students, it’s an outstanding institution.

It’s one of the places to visit that you shouldn’t miss.

The Holocaust Museum and Cohen Education Center is home to a wide range of outstanding artifacts.

More than a thousand different items from the Holocaust and World War II are on display.

This includes chronologically arranged photographs that tell the tale of the rise of Nazism, then the Allied Liberation, then the Nuremberg Trials.

Many of these items have been permanently loaned or simply donated by Holocaust Liberators and Survivors.

One incredibly notable artifact at the Holocaust Museum and Cohen Education Center is a genuine railway Boxcar from the Holocaust.

It was found after four years of searching across the planet by Jack Nortman, a Museum Board Member Emeritus.

The 10-ton Boxcar was a part of the German Railway during World War II, used in the transport of troops, prisoners, and supplies.

It is now the only traveling boxcar exhibit in the whole world.

It has gone on to visit more than 90 locations in Southwest Florida, educating over 100,000 people in its travels.

Of course, it is now retired, and at 101 years of age, it is on display at the museum.
